Open Document In Microsoft Word Online Mac
Apr 16, 2018 When you try to open a Microsoft Word for Mac document, Word for Mac stops responding. Additionally, you may have to use the Force Quit command to exit the program. Word for Office 365, Word 2019, Word 2016, and Word 2013. On the File menu, select Open, and then Browse. (In some versions, select Computer and then Browse.) In the Files of type list (All Word Documents), select All Files. Select the backup file that you found, and then select Open. On the File menu, select Open. Many iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch owners don’t have access to Macs, and instead use Windows computers at home or specifically at work. There are situations where we need to edit or review Apple’s native page file format on Microsoft Windows. When you try to open a page document with Word (or a similar program).
Now in Office for Mac, you can open Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files saved in OpenDocument Format (.odt, .ods, .odp) and convert them to editable Microsoft OOXML files (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx ).

Open an OpenDocument Format file in Office for Mac
Select File > Open.
Navigate to the location where your OpenDocument Format file is saved.
Choose the file you want, and then select Open.
The first time you open an OpenDocument Format file, you'll see a notification asking your permission to convert the file using the Microsoft online service (this example is from PowerPoint):
To continue opening your file, select Allow.

After you've opened your file, you'll see a notification that tells you the file is read-only. To edit the file, click Save As to first save it as a Microsoft OOXML file. After you've opened the ODF file and saved it as an OOXML file, you can edit and save your changes.
Requirements
This feature isn't available in Office for Mac 2011. It is only available in newer versions.
